James Owens is an American filmmaker and media artist, living in Columbia, South Carolina.

His work, ranging from 16mm film to interactive fiction, considers questions of structure and identity, the performance of self and autobiography, and life in the rural South.  Recently, he completed The Movie About my Father, a personal documentary working through ideas of origin and family history.  

He holds an MA in Media Arts from the University of South Carolina's School of Visual Art and Design, where he is currently an adjunct instructor.
